Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman yesterday lashed out at
an opposition member for erroneously claiming that the state government
would marginalise areas represented by the opposition.
“The Barisan
Nasional (BN) is a responsible government and has a good track record.
We respect and accept the people’s decision in the 13th general
election,” he said after interjecting while Datuk Jelani Hamdan
(PKR-Matunggong) was speaking during the motion of thanks to the policy
speech of Yang DiPertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, here, Wednesday.
Jelani
caused a commotion when he claimed that the state government had failed
to bring development and eradicate poverty in his area.
A number of
BN members demanded that Jelani retract his claims, prompting Musa, who
is also state Finance minister to stand up and chide him.
Musa said
Jelani’s claims were without basis, as the state government had
implemented various programmes throughout the state including in
Matunggong, such as the Mini Estet Sejahtera (MESEJ) and other rural
poverty eradication programmes.
“The BN government will endeavour to
meet the needs of the people and hear them out, regardless of race and
religion, despite the disparagements hurled at it by the opposition,” he
said.
Musa then demanded that Jelani apologise and retract his claims or otherwise provide evidence to the effect.
The opposition member subsequently obliged with an apology and withdrew his claims.
