Chance for women to be promoted

KOTA KINABALU: The state government is committed to empowering women in Sabah by giving promotions to those who are working in the civil service, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. 
 
Speaking to reporters after launching the state-level 1 Million Women Purple Walk 2013 at Dataran Bandaraya here, yesterday, Musa said the state government appreciated all contributions by women who had played their role to be part of  nation building. “We recognise our women’s achievements and the role they play at all levels. So if there is any opportunity for them to be promoted, the State Secretary and I will consider to give them the chance. “We will always give them the chance to be promoted to a higher level,” said Musa. 

Earlier in his launching speech, Musa also urged women in the state to be united and keep supporting the government in its struggle to ensure that all programmes planned would succeed. He also welcomed all initiatives by the federal government to organize such events which was an  outcome from the National Blue Ocean Strategy. The 1 Million Women Purple Walk 2013 yesterday is a celebration to appreciate women in conjunction with International Women’s Day which is celebrated on March 8 annually. 

Also present at the event yesterday were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yee Moh Chai, State Secretary Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman and Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Khoo Keok Hai.

Peningkatan jumlah wanita dalam sektor korporat penting: Azizah

Menteri Pembangunan Masyarakat dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna, Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun berkata peningkatan jumlah wanita dalam sektor korporat dan bukan korporat penting bagi mencapai sekurang-kurangnya 30 peratus daripada golongan ini memegang jawatan tertinggi dalam sektor korporat menjelang 2016.

“Saya percaya kerjasama antara kerajaan, syarikat, usahawan, individu dan pelbagai golongan diperlukan dalam meningkatkan latihan, bimbingan dan pembangunan untuk ahli lembaga pengarah wanita yang berpotensi,” kata Azizah dalam ucapannya semasa merasmikan pelancaran Roadshow Mengenai Program Pengarah-Pengarah Wanita (On Women Director’s Programme) di sini, kelmarin.

Azizah berkata, para pelabur, syarikat-syarikat korporat, organisasi perkhidmatan profesional dan firma perlu memainkan peranan secara aktif dalam menyokong inisiatif ini.

Pengerusi syarikat harus menetapkan sasaran peratusan jumlah wanita di dalam syarikat mereka dari tahun 2012 hingga 2015, seperti yang dituntut oleh Suruhanjaya Sekuriti Malaysia dan Bursa Saham Kuala Lumpur, katanya.

Yee: Women Are Not Left Out Of ICT Mainstream

About 48%of internet users in the country are women, which shows that they are not left out from the information and communication technology (ICT) mainstream, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai. He said the statistics showed that opportunities in the ICT sector were not only limited to the men "because women too could raise their socio-economic standard with the internet access provided whether in the urban or rural areas".

Azizah: Agrees with PM Sabah not poorest state

Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun  speech's at the closing ceremony of "Community Cooperative Transformation Towards Excellence, Creative and Innovative" seminar organised by the Malaysian National Cooperative Commission (SKM) and the National Cooperative Organisation of Malaysia (Angkasa) at Palace Hotel. She supported PM Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's statement that Sabah can no longer be considered the poorest state in the country.
