The soon-to-be constructed concrete bridge at Sungai Damit here has been described as a ‘dream come true’.
Assistant
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, who is also Tamparuli
assemblyman, said the bridge would serve as an alternative route to
motorists travelling to the northern part of Sabah, such as Ranau.
“We
have been waiting for this bridge and now, thanks to the State
Government, the people’s prayers are answered,” he said when met at the
launching of the Sabah Sepak Takraw Association (ASTAKA) President Cup
Championship here yesterday.
The event was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.
He said at the moment, the public depend on the suspension bridge to cross the river.
“This will be the second longest bridge after the Tamparuli Bridge, and would benefit 16 villages in the district,” he said.
Musa said RM16 million had been allocated to build the new bridge, which would also help to ease traffic congestion in the area.
He said that currently the project is at the drawing and documentation stages.
