Check statements diligently, EPF urges members

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has launched an advertising campaign that called on its members to diligently check their statements to ensure that their contributions were in order.

In a statement yesterday, EPF said the campaign, starting from today until June 14, 2013, will appear in both radio and television.

EPF general manager for public relations, Nik Affendi Jaafar, said the members must examined their statements to verify that their contributions were accurate and were remitted on a timely basis.

“For example, those earning RM5,000 and below should receive a 13 per cent contribution share from their employers while those earning above RM5,000 should be receiving 12 per cent,” he said.

Nik Affendi said the EPF recently dispatched the annual account statements for 2012 to its 6.85 million members.

“Alternatively, members can obtain their statements through electronic channels offered by the EPF—i-Akaun and EPF Kiosks. With i-Akaun, members are given the convenience to access their statements anytime and anywhere.

“As for EPF Kiosks, members can print their statements by using their MyKad and through thumbprint identification,” he said.

He said members may also request for their statements at the nearest EPF branch by producing their identification card.

“However, the EPF wishes to emphasise that any requests for statements via telephone will be declined for security reasons,” he said.

Niz Affendi said members who had moved out from their previous address to update their residential address with the EPF as the account statements were posted to members’ residential address as registered in EPF records.

This was to ensure that the statements, which contained confidential information, did not fall into the wrong hands, he said.
