A comprehensive Rural/Interior Education Development Transformation Plan for Sabah and Sarawak will be announced soon, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the federal government was committed to raising the standard of education in the two states, especially in the rural areas.

“As the Education Minister, I agree that schools throughout Sabah should be improved, for those in need of repairs and additional facilities.

“As such I would like to announce that we at the ministry have drafted a Rural/Interior Education Development Transformation Plan specially for Sabah and Sarawak.

“I am waiting for the right time to launch the plan which is aimed at improving the quality of education in Sabah and Sarawak to be on par with other states,” he said at a “Leader with the People” session held at Dewan Sri Antanom here yesterday.

Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak and Deputy Chief Ministers Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin.

“As such, I hope the people will give us the support so that when I am requesting the funds from the Prime Minister, it would be easier for him to fulfill.

“Whilst we have been provided with sufficient allocations, they have not been able to accommodate the needs in Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia to build more classrooms, halls and so on,” he said.
