RCI proves govt commitment to resolve illegals problem

The willingness of the government to set up the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah is a reflection of its commitment to really to look into and find workable solutions to the problem, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin.

Yahya, who is also Sabah Umno secretary, said the government was looking forward to the conclusion of the ongoing inquiry and would implement any recommendations presented by the commission.

“The attorney-general has said that should the commission find any wrongdoings, action will be taken against those involved. The government will also take recommendations from the RCI accordingly to effectively address the problem.

“This shows that the BN government is committed and sincere in dealing with the illegal immigrant issue and other related problems,” he said when met after officiating at the SALT Seminar here yesterday.

Yahya also expressed hope that the opposition would not spin the AG’s remarks and urged the public not to make their own assumptions before the RCI could complete its investigations.

“The AG did not say Project IC, he said any recommendations from the RCI will be considered. Don’t misinterpret or abuse (this statement),” he said.

The Petagas assemblyman also rejected the opposition’s claim that the Prime Minister’s interest in helping the Palestinians was just a political gimmick to gain Malay votes.

He said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had always been concerned and sympathetic towards Palestine. In fact, previous Malaysian leaders had also showed the same stand on the Gaza conflict.

“They are saying this because it is them who wanted to play up this issue politically. We understand that the PM, like his predecessor, is sincere. In fact, we do not allow visiting passport to Israel to show our protest against their action towards Palestine,” he said.
