RM50 mil special allocation for women to undertake franchise business

The Government has provide a special allocation of RM50m for women, including single mothers, to help them in the franchise business.

Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob, said, funding of tthe franchise programme for women is provided by the Perbadanan Nasional Berhad (PNB)


"To date, PNB has lent more than RM37m to franchisors and RM145m to franchises," he said when launching the Community Franchise Programme at Putera Jaya Housing Estate at Telipok.

Also present were Deputy CM and Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Yahya Hussin, Assistant Minister of Resource Development an Information Technology Datuk Jainab Ahmad and ADUN for Inanam Datuk Johnny Goh.

Ismail Sabri said the local franchise industry in M'sia is open to all groups whether from the high income, medium and low income group. He said the government introduced and developed the franchise system in the country to enable more entrepreneurs from low income an middle class to undertake franchise business, especially small or mirco-scale franchise. 

"Many thought that the franchise business only involves big businesses and can only be undertaken by high income people, requires huge amount of capital and cannot participated by low income and middle income groups. The governments is aware that many would be entrepreneurs are hesitant to invest in a franchise entrepreneurship as they are of the assumption  that the risk is very high an the high capital investment required will be limited to those who are financially capable only. because the industry is open to everyone including low and middle income group," he said.

  1. Good move from the Sabah State government for allocating RM50 million to women and single mothers in the franchise business. This shows that the government is concerned about the welfare of women.

  2. With the help of the government, not only big business can get into the franchise business but ordinary people from the low and middle income group can have a shot at it too.
