Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) needs to carry out transformation in
work culture into one that is more intellectual and based on creativity
and innovation, said Mayor Datuk Abidin Madingkir.
He said this was vital in achieving the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s call of “People First, Performance Now”.
This
transformation will not only trigger change in the system and work
procedure method as well as technology applications, it will also become
an added value to the quality improvement process of service delivery
overall.
“Today’s city residents are different than the people
from 20 years ago as they are now more active and not shy in voicing out
all kinds of ideas, views and issues.”
“Therefore, the approach
taken to resolve any problems will also be different than previously,”
he said when officiating the DBKK Innovation Day celebration at the DBKK
Meeting Hall here, yesterday.
Also present were DBKK
director-general, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, DBKK deputy director-general,
Joannes Solidau, department, division and unit heads and also members of
the DBKK Innovative and Creative Group.
Abidin said DBKK needs
bold changes and to try more innovative approaches in service delivery
in order to fulfill the customer’s current needs.
“The customer’s
needs and expectations are increasing which indicates that DBKK needs to
be more responsive and to provide services geared towards the
customer’s real needs.”
“Ideas as well new approaches that are
more radical need to be created and implemented in order to fulfill the
demands of ‘Business Is Not As Usual’. In accordance, the culture of
quality and innovation is something that needs to be championed together
at DBKK,” he said.
He added that DBKK’s aim in organising the
inaugural Innovation Day celebration is to bring awareness to its
officers and staff on the importance of cultivating innovation in
providing excellent and innovative service to its customers and the
people.
Abidin said DBKK also has to play a role as an organisation in forming and spearheading excellent technology as well service.
“Therefore,
I hope that we will together cultivate innovation in DBKK in order to
provide more quality and innovative service to the customer and to the
people,” he said.
