Some 65 national-type primary schools in Sabah will receive aid to
carry out repairs besides expanding the number of their classrooms and
other works, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The
aid, he said, to be announced over several weeks, would be
“substantially higher” than the RM9.35mil assistance the schools
received last year.
“A handful of schools have reported that their
dilapidated buildings need to be replaced. One school in Beaufort
reported that one of its blocks was damaged by floods,” he said after
meeting officials of the Sabah Chinese Schools Development Committee
here yesterday.
The assistance, added Dr Wee, would also enable schools to buy more furniture for their teachers and students.
Asked
about the quantum of increase in the aid, he said it would definitely
be more than 10% and that the details would be announced after the
Chinese New Year.
The funds were part of the yearly aid to Chinese schools with government, Tamil and mission schools also receiving similar aid.
“No
community will be neglected,” assured Dr Wee, adding that Sabah was
among the states which received the highest amount of aid.
