Sabahan workers in Singapore, not entirely to be blamed

Sabahan workers in Singapore who were involved in crime are not entirely to be blamed, said Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad. She said some found themselves in desperate situations after being cheated by unscrupulous employment agents.

“These agents promised youths from Sabah’s rural areas high paying jobs in Singapore but they ended up working for far less,” said Jainab. “Some have tried to extricate themselves from their contracts or had to take another job just to pay off these agents,”

To get or apply a job what kind of criteria most people will look at? 

I think most of us will firstly see the salary. Am I right? Not too choosy but as you all know nowadays....... (answer by your own), but all depend on you.

Sabah Jobless and State Government Programmes

Recording to Datuk Jainab Ahmand the Assistant Minister of  Resource Development and Information Technology, currently  Sabah unemployment rate is 5.6%. Government has taken  several measures to reduce the unemployment rate.

  • Conducting job placement programmes (3P)
  • Open job interviews at all Labour Department Offices   all over Sabah 
  • Encourage locals to work in plantations 
  • Jobs placement through Job M'sia Portal

Achievement:
In 2011, 
  • 1,452 job seekers across the state were successfully  emplaced through 3P programme
  • 3,248 people through open interview programme
  • 451 people through programmes that encourage local  workers to work in plantations
  • 992 people through the Jobs M'sia Portal



  

Department of Human Resources Development and Sabah Job Centre also organize exhibitions and career guidance programs to provide opportunities for youths to get information on jobs and how to face interview.

Register in Sabah Job Centre: 23,079 (since 2007)
Sabah Labour Department : managed to secure employment   for 5,115 job seekers comprising 563 graduates and 4,552 non graduates.
