Town planners have been urged to be sensitive and
far-sighted in coming up with more strategic and holistic planning to
create towns that can provide high-quality living for its residents.
State
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor said visionary
town planning would produce towns that would be responsive to future
challenges in keeping with the changing times.
“To improve the
quality of service delivery, we need to resolve the current planning
issues which are the main challenge to our transformation programme.
This
means the issues of slow plan approvals, land use, planning standard
and so on must be tackled to make these more efficient.”
Hajiji said
this in his speech at the Sabah Town and Regional Planning Department’s
33rd anniversary dinner function which was also attended by its director
Mursidi Sapie, here, last night.
He said the use of new technology
like digital mapping was a wise move in dealing with land planning and
development issues for the good of all.
Hajiji also called for the involvement of all relevant quarters in helping the government’s efforts towards green technology.
“Green
technology will create new business opportunities and encourage
investment in the real estate sector to make it more sustainable and
give a positive impact to the state’s economic development, besides
creating balance between development and the environment,” he said.
