Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Yahya Hussin has ordered the local authorities to immediately rectify the frequently congested traffic flow in Putatan town.
He said it was important for them to take action now due to rapid development in the area and increasing population.
“I urge the local authorities and district officer to look into this because the Putatan Road is not only for residents in the area but also for all users from the west coast and Interior right up to Sarawak, Brunei and Labuan,” said Yahya who is also the assemblyman for Petagas.
He was speaking at a press conference during a visit to the Putatan Platinum Apartment Projects implemented by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad here yesterday.
Accompanying Yahya on his visit was his political secretary, Victor Ng, Putatan District Officer, Ag. Abd. Ghani Pg. Yusoff, Executive Secretary of the Putatan District Council, Saifudin Awang Ahmad and members of the Putatan District Council as well as Managing Director of Kinsabina Sdn.Bhd, Francis Goh and the head of office of Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad in Sabah, Mohd Hafiz Sua Abdullah.
Yahya said that the Occupation Certificate (OC) for the apartments is expected to be issued after the Chinese New Year.
The project consists of five blocks of affordable housing with 1,012 units and is now 99 per cent completed.
Each unit has an area of 850 square feet and is priced betweenRM150,000 and RM200,000.
“I am satisfied with the progress overall but I ask the authorities to improve the flow of traffic. We know the traffic congestion will get worse with the additional 1,012 units of apartments. Imagine if each of the 1,012 units is filled with a couple and at least one child – it will certainly contribute to population growth,” said Yahya.
He also suggested that the Putatan District Council provide a comprehensive development master plan on infrastructure and housing to ensure that future development in Putatan is properly implemented.
“We should be in accordance with the earlier urban planning that was put in place. We will know where the main roads are and where the shops are… don’t just follow what the applicant or developer desires.
“Therefore, I recommend that every application for development should be considered holistically and not individually. Otherwise Putatan will be a ‘rojak’ town in the future,” he said.
