Shell Malaysia continues its commitment towards instilling environmental awareness among the younger generation in Sabah.
The company yesterday presented RM80,000 to the state Tourism, Culture and Environment ministry in support of environmentally friendly school programme, SERASI (Sekolah Rakan Alam Sekitar) Sabah.
General manager of Manufacturing, Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Tom Wong handed the contribution to the minister, Datuk Masidi Manjun, during a courtesy visit by the organising committee of the 2011/2012 SERASI programme to the latter’s office.
“We are happy to continue supporting SERASI, working closely with key government departments, non-governmental organisations and the schools in Sabah to promote environmental education in schools,” said Wong.
He said Shell was committed to contributing to sustainable development, with the aim of ensuring a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come.
The SERASI programme, he added, was part of this commitment to work with the community to make this happen.
Meanwhile, Masidi said SERASI was not only about teaching the young about environmental conservation but ultimately helping pave the way for a greener future.
“SERASI is a life process that is meant to leave a good legacy to future generations and that is actually what Shell is doing,” he said.
The aim of the SERASI programme is to promote the green message to all schools through efforts related to environmental management, environmental activities, greening the school, cleanliness and beautification of school, environmental innovation and clean toilets.
The programme will culminate in a prize-giving ceremony that will be held on October 13 here.
