Sabahan workers in Singapore who were involved in crime are not entirely to be blamed, said Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad. She said some found themselves in desperate situations after being cheated by unscrupulous employment agents.
“These
agents promised youths from Sabah’s rural areas high paying jobs in
Singapore but they ended up working for far less,” said Jainab. “Some
have tried to extricate themselves from their contracts or had to take
another job just to pay off these agents,”
